Congress Districts 2016
At the Tarheel East District Congressional National Qualifiers, Senior James Mitton finished second in his Senate chamber qualifying him for the NSDA tournament in Salt Lake City in June. James is the first SandHoke debater to qualify in Student Congress.

At the Tarheel East District National Qualifiers this weekend, SandHoke had no qualifiers, but did have some decent finishes. In Lincoln Douglas Debate, Senior James Mitton finished 7th after dropping to the eventual champion. Mitton is a Congressional debater, but he did extremely well for this not being his event. Mitton also competed in Duo Interpretation with Freshman Nicolas Kyle. In Humorous Interpretation, Junior Alyssa Price advanced to Semifinals (Top 12), missing Finals by speaker points, and she also completed in Dramatic Interpretation

Junior Brandon Sweeney advanced to elimination rounds at the National Catholic Forensics League tournament in Chicago. Sweeney went undefeated in prelims (5-0) and was 7th seed. He won in Doubles before dropping in Octofinals on a close 2-1 decision. Sweeney is now auto qualified to the NCFL tournament next year in Ft. Lauderdale.
